About Colonic Hydrotherapy

A COLONIC
Colon Hydrotherapy involves introducing warm water to the colon, to aid the evacuation of waste from the large intestine/colon. The treatment is also known as colonic irrigation.

About Colonic Hydrotherapy . Colonic room

The first appointment will usually last between an hour and a half and two hours and will include a consultation, medical questionnaire and a full explanation of the equipment and procedure. You may have some reservations and concerns and there will be plenty of time to ask questions.

This could also include suggestions about some positive lifestyle changes to support enhanced health and wellbeing.

Following the consultation, the therapy itself takes around 45 minutes, during which modern, hygienic equipment gently cleanses the colon using warm filtered water, in a simple, dignified procedure. This filling and emptying is repeated several times and massage is applied to the abdomen.

Unlike an enema, colonic hydrotherapy reaches the whole length of the large intestine, with the massage from the therapist helping to ensure an effective cleanse. The water pressure and temperature are carefully controlled and all waste is drained away discreetly in a closed system with no mess or odours.

Focusing specifically on the bowel, colon hydrotherapy can facilitate the management of occasional constipation or IBS. It can also provide a sensation of overall well-being and often inspires people to consider a healthier diet and lifestyle. However, experience shows us that colonics can provide relief from the symptoms of a wide range of digestive disorders, including IBS, constipation, bloating and wind. Many clients find that colonics offer help where modern medicine has failed, especially where symptoms have been dismissed under the catch-all diagnosis of IBS.

Colon Hydrotherapists are trained to recognise any contra-indications. Your therapist may request that you seek the advice of a medical practitioner prior to your treatment. If you have questions about the therapy please see

As the Colon is now regarded by scientists as the body's “Second Brain”, and in addition contains a large part of the immune system, it is a very important organ to keep healthy!

I have practiced colon hydrotherapy for 24 years and along with naturopathy I support and advise many people with their their chronic bowel problems.

A full consultation is always done before a first treatment and to make sure there are no contra-indications to having the therapy. No special preparation is needed beforehand and you will be able to go back to work right afterwards.

You can watch some video examples https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uw4U9-kHWls and see how consultations and treatments are carried out by ARCH registered colleagues. The videos will answer most of the questions you may have about the procedure.

You will see an example on the youtube videos of a 'gravity' system, with a water tank on the wall. Many colleagues like myself use a 'machine' to deliver and control the water. This is a photo of my instalation above. There is no difference with either of these systems to the procedure, the result, or the time taken to carry out a treatment. The type of equipment used is entirely up to the choice of individual therapists. Strict sterilization procedures for all equipment have to be adhered to by all ARCH registered members and disposable speculi and tubing are used for each treatment.

Please ring 01792 654751 during office hours for an appointment. The initial appointment will last up to two hours to give time for a full consultation before the treatment. The receptionist will ask for a deposit to guarantee the appointment and you will be sent a medical questionnaire to fill out.
